Career in Software Engineering
As a branch of computer science, software engineering includes the development and building of computer systems software and applications software. Systems software consists of programs that include computing utilities and operations systems and applications software includes user-focused programs, including database programs, Web browsers and more. Knowledge of programming languages, software development and computer operating systems are three major components of the field. Software engineering is a related, but slightly different occupational field than computer hardware engineering, which is concerned with the design and development of hardware and computing technologies. Software engineers use certain design principles to develop, test, and maintain software. Students with training in software engineering can also apply their skills to computer systems as well. A bachelor's degree in computer science is usually required, although there are some college majors available that focus exclusively on software engineering.
Duties of Software Engineers:
- Work in a team of developers in several projects.
- Develop well-optimized and efficient source code for the latest software applications.
- Produce software tools and amalgamate it to a fully functional software system.
- Maintain and test software to ensure that it is working properly.
