SCRA is a recruitment examination conducted on a national level to select student for recruitment of Special Class Railway Apprentices (SCRA) under Indian Railways. The examination is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on behalf of the Indian Railways every year which witnesses a turnout of more than a few lakh students. The exam was last held in 2016 and the chances of re-conducting the exam are almost negligible. Apprentices selected through UPSC SCRA exam will be commissioned as Class I officers in the Indian Railways Service of Mechanical Engineering or ISRME, after the completion of four years long apprenticeship.
Eligibility criteria: To be eligible for appearing in SCRA 2018, every aspirant has to meet the following set of eligibility criteria.
- Educational Qualification:
- Candidates should have passed their Intermediate/class 12th examination with Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry should be studied as one of their main subjects in the examination. Candidates must have secured first or second class in the exam. Or,
- Candidates should have completed the graduation with Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry should be studied as one of their main subjects in the examination.
- Age Limit: Candidates who are interested to appear in this examination should be aged between 17 to 21 years.
Selection Process: The selection process of candidates will be based on the three modes of examination which include: Written exam, personality test or Interview and Document Verification respectively.
