Indian Coast Guard as Navik (General Duty)
The general duty naviks serve as sailors, weapons system operators, communication specialists, divers, etc. in specific maritime or aviation suppor roles. Naviks (GD) are trained at INS Chilka for 24 weeks. The GD Naviks at INS Chilka are deputed for afloat training for 3 months followed by Cadre training. This training depends upon the cadre and varies from 4-6 months.
Eligibility criteria: The candidates will only be selected for the post of General Duty recruitment if they will fulfil the below mentioned eligibility criteria.
- Educational Qualification: Candidate must have qualified 10+2 passed with 50% marks aggregate in total and minimum 50% aggregate in Maths and Physics from an education board recognized by Central/State Government. The minimum marks criteria for the candidates belonging to SC/ST category is 45%.
- Age limit: The age limit for the recruitment is 18 to 22 years. Relaxation of 05 years has been granted to SC/ST Candidates and the same for OBC Candidates is 3 years.
Selection Process: The candidates will be selected on the basis of entrance examination. Candidates who manage to clear the written exam are then called to appear for the Physical Fitness Test. The Physical test consists of tasks such as 1.6 km run (to be completed in 7 minutes), 20 squat ups and 10 push ups. Finally, the candidates who have cleared the Physical Fitness Test are then subjected to Medical test. In order to get selected for training, a candidate must clear this medical test also. The final selection of candidates for training is based on the scores obtained by them in written exam, physical and medical tests.
