Bachelor of Rural Studies (BRS)
Bachelor of Rural Studies is a 3-year degree program devised to prepare graduates for working in the field of Rural Development. The course gives the opportunity to engage in various rural and community development activities. It covers topis like animal husbandry, forestry, farm management, child development, agriculture, environment managenent, community development, etc. and knowledge on these subjects is being imparted theoretically and practically. In most of the colleges, hostel accommodation is compulsory. It aims to prepare graduates to play multiple roles in the development of a rural and regional community.
Eligibility: The candidate should have completed higher secondary education (10 +2) successfully from any recognised higher secondary education board with 50% marks.
Admission Process: At some colleges, admission is through entrance test and other colleges have direct admission based on the 10+2 result.

Career Prospects: Employment avenues for such graduates are limited. After pursuing studies in this discipline, one can create his own source of income by self-employment in the field of agriculture, animal husbandry or dairy or nursery farm or horticulture activities. Graduates can also work for Private sector organizations that deal with rural areas, public service organizations for local agriculturalists, government sector or rural development.
